Williams toont tekenen van herstel in kwalificatie

Voor het team van Williams waren de afgelopen drie races zeker niet om over naar huis te schrijven. Het Britse team zag de top drie verder weglopen, terwijl concurrent Force India dichterbij lijkt te komen. In de kwalificatie voor de Duitse GP lijkt het team zich enigzins hersteld te hebben. Valtteri Bottas en Felipe Massa starten de race op Hockenheim vanaf een achtste en tiende plaats.

Waar het tijdens de Grands Prix van Oostenrijk, Groot-Brittannië en Hongarije totaal niet wilde vlotten met de wagens van Williams staat de equipe uit Grove er na de kwalificatie op de Hockenheimring toch weer redelijk bij. Er was reden tot optimisme vanwege de dubbele top tien-klassering, al stond men twee jaar geleden, tijdens het laatste treffen in Duitsland, tweede en derde op de startgrid.

"De tijden in het middenveld zitten erg dicht bij elkaar. Dat zag je al in de trainingen. De balans van de auto was prima en we kregen de banden goed aan het werk, iets was ons in de afgelopen races niet altijd lukte. We komen ten opzichte van de teams die voor ons staan wel wat grip tekort, maar ik heb er voor het gevoel het maximale uit gehaald. Ik ben tevreden met dit resultaat", aldus Bottas.

Felipe Massa kende gedurende de kwalificatie nog een momentje met Toro Rosso-coureur Carlos Sainz Jr. in bocht twee, maar wist toch het laatste deel van de kwalificatie te halen: "We waren gedurende de training en kwalificatie volop in gevecht met Force India. Mijn ronde was erg goed, al maakte ik wel een fout in de twaalfde bocht. Ik ga mijn best doen in de race morgen."

  Williams hoort nog gewoon bij de beste 5 teams. Niet op banen als Hongarij en Singapore maar wel op banen waar motorvermogen erg belangrijk is.
  
  Ik hoop dat ze het volgend jaar goed doen. Williams is een team met prachtige historie en ademt F1.
  Hopelijk wordt Massa vervangen!
  
  Ik denk dat Bottas automatisch harder gaat rijden naast een sterkere teamgenoot. Gas geven kan die Fin namelijk echt wel.

  @Damon Hill, dat denk ik ook! Dat zag je ook aan Ricciardo toen Max zijn teamgenoot werd. De Australiër reed toen een stuk beter dan daarvoor.
  
  Bottas voelt naar mijn mening te weinig druk van Massa en dat heeft zijn weerslag op de resultaten van dit jaar. Williams is een mooi team en met Claire is het helemaal mooi!

LoL. Mercedes heeft dit weekend nieuwe motoren aangebroken, en op een circuit wat redelijk veel rechte stukken bevat gaat het goed ja ja.... Ga even lekker je 3e sector tijden vergelijken met die van de top 6. Of desnoods die van FI.

Zet dat ding in de regen op een Hungaroring of Monaco en de gemiddelde GP 2 of 3 auto rijdt de Williams helemaal zoek. Grappenmakers. :-)

Williams heeft inderdaad een geweldige historie, vind het een prachtig team.
Echter blijjkt dat ze de plank volledig hebben misgeslagen met het ontwerp van de 'nieuwe' 2016 auto. Vorig jaar waren ze sterk, mede dankzij het MB blok.
Dit jaar is de doorontwikkeling barslecht en kunnen ze zelfs met het beste blok van het veld geen potten breken. Zonde. Misschien komen de nieuwe regels van volgend jaar hen goed uit want binnen de huidige regelgeving zie ik ze niet binnen 2 jaar opklimmen/aansluiten bij de top.
