Wehrlein: "Op zaterdagen scoor je geen punten"

Manor-coureur Pascal Wehrlein heeft het belang van zijn kwalificatievorm ten opzichte van die van teamgenoot Rio Haryanto afgezwakt. In het onderlinge kwalificatieduel staat het 7-5, wel in het voordeel van de Duitser. Maar het verschil is minder groot dan menigeen vooraf dacht.

Wehrlein kan daar echter veel betere raceresultaten tegenover zetten. Aan Auto Hebdo liet hij weten: "Kwalificeren is één ding, racen is andere koek. Wat dat laatste betreft, het staat 11-1 in mijn voordeel, inclusief een tiende plaats in Oostenrijk. Op zaterdagen scoor je geen punten."

"Het oorspronkelijke doel was om minstens een punt te scoren dit seizoen en dat is al gelukt. Daardoor bezetten we de tiende positie in het kampioenschap voor constructeurs en staan we boven Sauber. Dat is meer dan we hadden durven dromen en belangrijk voor de inkomsten van Manor."

      Wehrlein eindigt echter zelden op de een na laatste plek. Meestal is er nog een Sauber of een Renault achter hem te bespeuren.

      Het gaat niet om wat je achter je hebt op de grid, maar om wat je voor je hebt.... In de top vier starten kan de gridpositie het verschil maken voor een podium-plek.... 21 of 22 starten met een slechte auto,of gewoon matige coureur, maakt het echt niet zoveel uit ....

    Ik zou toch wat aan deze instelling doen. In een manor maakt het misschien minder uit, maar wilde hij niet graag naar een top team.

    Groot gelijk heeft hij. Hier werd ook heel nonchalant gedaan over de slechtere kwalificatie pace van Verstappen tegenover Ricciardo, gezien hij normaal gesproken toch sneller was op de zondag. Hier is precies hetzelfde het geval, alleen nog extremer.

    Uitstekende coureur. Hopelijk krijgt hij volgend jaar toch wel iets meer tegenstand.

    Iedereen vind die Wehrlein zo goed maar waarom rijd hij dan niet bij een topteam...... o ja hij is zich nog aan het voorbereiden.

    O dus als Verstappen (die bijna altijd langzamer is dan Ricciardo in de kwalificatie) zegt dat de race belangrijker is zijn we het er allemaal mee eens maar als Wehrlein (of welke coureur dan ook) het zegt is t opeens nonchalantie?

    Het meten met 2 maten is weer begonnen.

      Volgens mij ben jij in deze post degene die meet met 2 maten en brengt de discussie weer op gang. Ricciardo rijdt al een paar jaartjes mee in de F1 en op zeer hoog niveau (ook nog eens in dezelfde auto).
