McLaren niet in de positie om banden te testen

Het team van McLaren heeft de mogelijkheid om de banden voor volgend jaar te testen aan zich voorbij laten gaan. Bandenleverancier Pirelli vroeg teams om een aan 2017 aangepaste 2015-auto te leveren om de bredere banden voor komend seizoen te ontwikkelen. Ferrari, Red Bull Racing en Mercedes hapten toe, McLaren niet.

De Britse renstal heeft de handen vol aan zichzelf en richt zich liever op het verbeteren van het pakket. McLaren-directeur Eric Boullier legt uit: "Je moet voor jezelf de balans opmaken over de kosten en de inspanning die het zou vergen om een testauto in gereedheid te brengen. Wij trokken de conclusie dat het voor ons beter was om ons niet af te laten leiden door Pirelli-tests."

"Natuurlijk kun je het een en ander opsteken bij die bandentests, maar alle data wordt gedeeld met de teams die niet testen. Wij staan niet waar we willen staan en concentreren ons liever op onszelf en op het sneller maken van onze wagen."

    Logische keus, naar mijn idee. Mclaren Honda moet eerst zorgen dat ze standaard achter deze 3 topteams komen, de teams wie daar achter komen, testen ook niet al met die banden.

      Goh, ik weet het niet. Ook al wordt de data gedeeld, het lijkt me toch altijd een meerwaarde als je echt kan testen. De top 3 was er als de kippen bij om zich kandidaat te stellen om het nieuwe rubber te testen en zo mss zelfs een kleine voorsprong te nemen voor 2017.

      De laatste jaren zijn de banden zo verschillend van mekaar gebleken dat een test enig doorzicht kan brengen. Hopelijk voor Mclaren namen ze geen verkeerde beslissing door afwezig te blijven.

      Overigens vraag ik me wel af of er volledige transparantie is in het delen van al die data...

      @CAVALLINO zoals ik het heb begrepen is die volledige transparantie er wel, alle data gaat naar Pirelli en hun maken dat weer bekend naar de overige teams.

      Tuurlijk mis je het gevoel, de ervaring met de band zelf, de kennis van hoe een band zich gedraagd. Maar dat is weer moeilijker voor de 3 teams omdat de teams zelf niet weten op wat voor compound ze reden. Het is (mij) ook niet bekend of alle teams ook alle compounds testen

      @CAVALLINO, mee eens. Data delen is een ding, maar het gevoel wat je als coureur ervaart is mijn inziens minstens zo belangrijk. Je kunt mij niet wijsmaken dat deze coureurs niet aan kunnen voelen op welke compound ze rijden.

    Ik had van McLaren eigenlijk verwachten dat ze wel een testauto beschikbaar konden stellen.... Waar ligt het eigenlijk aan dat ze dit niet kunnen? Ik bedoel, als ze tijdens de vrije training een auto afschrijven staat er zo weer een nieuwe klaar...

      gok op kosten en inspanningen van het team en dan met name op de menskracht je moet naast de auto een bestuurder ook nog een compleet team ter beschikking stellen om de auto te managen
