Pirelli zet zinnen op een wintertest in Bahrein

Bandenleverancier Pirelli wil graag dat een van de testsessies ter voorbereiding op het nieuwe seizoen plaatsvindt in Bahrein. De Italiaanse bandenfabrikant pleit ervoor om de nieuwe bredere banden te testen in hoge temperaturen. In februari en maart stijgt het kwik in Europa doorgaans niet boven de 20 graden.

Pirelli-motorsportbaas Paul Hembery verklaarde aan UOL Esporte: "Vanuit het oogpunt van de bandenleverancier zou het beter zijn om in de voorbereiding op 2017 naar warmere oorden te trekken. Bahrein zou bijvoorbeeld een betere indicatie van de performance van de banden geven. Ik snap dat de teams aanhikken tegen de extra kosten, maar in een sport waarin honderden miljoenen euro's omgaan moet het toch mogelijk zijn om iets te regelijk. Bahrein zou ons in elk geval een beter beeld geven van waar we staan."

De teams voelen daar vooralsnog weinig voor. Force India-directeur Otmar Szafnauer: "Er wordt ook al met de voor 2017 omgebouwde 2015-auto's getest in Abu Dhabi, daar is het over het algemeen ook heet. Zolang Pirelli de data met alle teams deelt hebben we daar vrede mee en ben ik ervan overtuigd dat de banden in orde zullen zijn voor het begin van de eerste wintertest."

Ik snap dat het handig is voor Pirelli en dat ze veel aan de data hebben. Maar word er dan weinig rekening gehouden met de logistiek en de kosten die er zijn voor de teams. Zeker de kleinere teams zullen er weinig voor voelen lijkt mij.

    Als Pirelli zo veelwaarde hecht aan testen onder hoge temperatuur, laten ze dan ook maar betalen....

      Volgens mij is het vrij normaal dat ontwikkelingskosten voor producten worden doorberekend aan klanten. Wat dat betreft moet Pirelli de rekening gewoon bij de teams neer kunnen leggen; ze verwachten goede banden en moeten er dan ook maar voor betalen.

      Ja maar nu worden de kosten bij de teams neergelegd die bereid zijn om de tests te doen.
      Tenzij bedoeld wordt dat de wintertest in Bahrein word gehouden in plaats van Barcelona, in dat geval jaag je de teams weer op extra kosten door de grotere afstand.
