Haas: "Ik had naar Ecclestone moeten luisteren"

Gene Haas heeft er een beetje spijt van dat hij een eigen Formule 1-team heeft opgericht en niet een van de bestaande renstallen heeft overgenomen. Bernie Ecclestone had de Amerikaan nog zo gewaarschuwd, maar Haas was eigenwijs. Dat geeft hij toe in gesprek met Autosport.

"Bernie zei continu dat we een van de bestaande teams moesten kopen", begint Haas. "Ik had naar hem moeten luisteren. Er waren op dat moment maar tien renstallen, dus economisch gezien was het veel voordeliger geweest om een bestaand team over te nemen. Bernie had gelijk, dat was een beter idee geweest."

"Er kleven zoveel voordelen aan een team uit de top tien. Niet alleen krijg je geld uit Kolom A, zoals dat heet, maar ook alle vlieg- en transportkosten worden vergoed. Er is veel financiële steun voor de gevestigde teams."

    sorry hoor, maar óf de F1 teambazen zijn veel minder slim dan ikdacht óf dit is een broodje aap....

      Lijkt me een broodje aap @Joop, ga er maar vanuit dat het een zorgvuldige afweging is geweest om een volledig nieuw team op te zetten, dit lijkt me meer een opmerking van Haas van kijk ons het eens zwaar hebben...

      Ja....als er één een zakenman is, dan is Haas het wel. Dus die heeft dit van te voren wel degelijk goed uit gepluisd , daar ben ik van overtuigt. Dat het toch nog tegenvalt is ook iets wat hij op voorhand wel heeft meegenomen. Dat hij er echter zo van zou balen, dat had hij niet voorzien.

      Volgens mij kom je pas voor Kolom A in aanmerking als je in twee van de drie voorgaande jaren in de top tien bent geëindigd, dus Haas F1 Team komt daar nog niet voor in aanmerking

    Dat is toch bizar? Juist de teams achteraan zouden hun geld beter kunnen besteden dan aan de vlieg- en transportkosten. Bovendien zijn dat vaak ook de kleinere teams waar dan weer minder vlieg- en transportkosten voor zijn. Gek wereldje die F1 af en toe.

      Volgens mij worden die vergoed zodra het team 1 punt heeft gehaald. Dus het nadeel is ook niet zo groot..

      Jep. Stel je voor dat iemand daarnaast ook nog eens Caterham gekocht had! Ik ben voor een vollere grid. 12, 13, 14 teams. Maar dan wens ik ze wel toe dat ze wat competitiever zijn dan de HRT's, Caterhams en Marussia's van de afgelopen jaren.

      Met een team als Sauber ben ik momenteel helemaal niet blij, staat stijf achteraan en fungeert als rijdende chicane. Ik hoop overigens wel dat Sauber weer het licht gaat zien en voren komt.

      Poeh met Sauber komt het wel weer goed....ik kan mij nog Fort-Ford herrineren in 1995...vooral begin 1995 waren ze tergend langzaam met een veel te zwaar aangepaste F3000 wagen...vaak 7 seconden per ronde te langzaam.

      @COMPLICATED: Wat bernie dus bedoelde was inderdaad Caterham overnemen puur voor het voordeel van een bestaande renstal. Daarna het zo doen als HAAS het nu gedaan heeft...

    Haas heeft geluk dat ze in het begin van het seizoen gelijk wat punten hebben gepakt en dus volgend jaar een leuke zak geld krijgen, dat zal de pijn verzachten.
    Wanneer ze bijvoorbeeld Sauber over hadden genomen waren die punten maar de vraag geweest.

    Verder is het voor de sport goed dat er twee auto's extra op de grid staan

    Ik weet niet, ik heb nooit zo goed begrepen waarom het goed is dat iedere rijke stinkerd een F1 team kan kopen. Die afwisseling, van team eigenaren. Ik ben er een beetje ziek van. Mr. Brandson met zijn team, er is niks geen continuïteit in de achterhoede. Een rijke stinkerd koopt zich een F1 team, alsof het een soort hebbedingetje is, en na een seizoen, of misschien 2/3 , dan is hij er klaar mee.

    Hopelijk gaat de Fia zijn best doen om het voor fabrikanten weer aantrekkelijk te maken...

    Als nieuwkomer hebben ze het tot nu toe anders wel heel goed gedaan met 28 punten. Dat is meer dan recente andere nieuwkomers Caterham, Manor en HRT tot nu toe hebben behaald bij elkaar...
