Efficiënt met de brandstof omspringen is tegenwoordig belangrijker dan ooit in de Formule 1. Daarom hebben de topteams ook allemaal een grote brandstofproducent aan zich gebonden. McLaren werkt samen met ExxonMobil, dat via Mobil 1 en Esso de meest efficiënte brandstof en smeermiddelen probeert te ontwikkelen voor de Britse renstal.
