Ericsson voorziet sprong voorwaarts van Sauber

Het team van Sauber kan na de overname door Longbow Finance eindelijk doorpakken met de ontwikkeling van de C35. De Zwitserse renstal beschikt nu over de financiële middelen om updates te introduceren. Dat is een goed teken met het oog op de rest van het seizoen, denkt coureur Marcus Ericsson. De meeste andere teams hebben de aandacht al naar 2017 verschoven.

Daar kan Sauber wellicht van profiteren. Ericsson deelde aan Autosport mede: "Het ziet ernaar uit dat de meeste teams hun geplande upgrades al doorgevoerd hebben en alleen nog maar kleine dingetjes zullen doen. Dat stemt ons hoopvol dat we grotere stappen kunnen zetten dan de concurrentie. Onze updates komen nu op gang, later dan gepland, en hopelijk zetten we dat om in een sprong voorwaarts."

"We moeten ons terug naar voren en naar de punten knokken. Dat is belangrijk, helemaal nu Manor al een punt gescoord heeft. Dat is nu het eerste doel. Hopelijk maken de nieuwe onderdelen onze auto sneller zodat we punten kunnen pakken. Er heerst in elk geval een veel betere sfeer sinds de overname. Het team verkeerde in een benarde situatie, maar de nieuwe eigenaren hebben een einde gemaakt aan de onzekerheid."

Reken er maar niet op. Klein stapje voor Manor of Renault extra is zelfs met een reuzesprong van Sauber niet meer goed te maken.
En dan zit je nog met Nasr en Ericsson.

Richt de aandacht maar op 2017 en verder zou ik zeggen.
