Honda heeft de weg naar boven ingezet. Na het moeizame seizoen 2015, het eerste jaar terug in de koningsklasse van de autosport, moest Yasuhisa Arai het veld ruimen als baas van het Formule 1-project. Hij werd vervangen door Yusuke Hasegawa en dat is een meesterzet geweest. Die boodschap draagt Eric Boullier van McLaren uit tegenover Autosport.

"De aanpak van Honda is onder Yusuke compleet anders", begint de Fransman. "Ik onderhoud een goede relatie met hem. We zien elkaar regelmatig om elkaar bij te praten over de stand van zaken. Dat doen we niet alleen op het circuit, waar iedereen druk bezig is en verplichtingen heeft. We spreken geregeld af. Yusuke is open, transparant, snugger en een aanjager."

"Het begint steeds meer coöperatief te worden, we werken steeds intensiever samen. Het functioneert nu, dat is het belangrijkste. McLaren en Honda zijn in balans. We moeten pushen om de auto verder te verbeteren. We weten wat we met de aerodynamica moeten doen en Honda pikt het ook goed op getuige de upgrade waar we sinds Silverstone over beschikken."

"We hebben nog veel mogelijkheden om ons verder te ontwikkelen die we momenteel niet benutten. We hebben bijvoorbeeld wat dingen om meer neerwaartse druk te genereren, maar dat betekent ook meer luchtweerstand en dat kunnen we op dit moment niet gebruiken. We doen het stap voor stap, eerst Honda en dan wij. We komen er wel."

De krachtigste Honda was die achterin de Williams in 1986.
Het jaar waarin Nigel Mansell eigenlijk wk had moeten worden.
1987 kwam de gereguleerde turbodruk met popoff valves.
In 1987 was de begrenzing max 4.0 Bar, in '88 was de max turbodruk nog verder teruggeschroefd naar max 2,5 bar.

Hoop dat die Honda krachtbron de krachtigste wordt zoals weleer ten tijde van Ayrton, maar ja die tijden komen niet terug...

  Vooral de BMW/Megatron had daar last van, die dingen piekte ergens rond 5,5 bar.
  De exacte vermogens wisten ze niet, het maximale vermogen was een geëxtrapolleerde schatting van het vermogen door de kromme van de toename van het vermogen bij lagere turbodruk door te tekenen, er was geen dyno die het geweld van die 1500cc'tjrs met zo goed als 100% tolueen als brandstof kon meten.
  
  Dit was in de tijd dat een supercomputer nodig was voor berekeningen die je nu op je smartwatch kunt doen.
  
  De Cosworth 120 graden v6 gefinanvierd door Ford had de potentie om de meest krachtige motor in het veld te worden, maar ze zijn te laat ingestapt.
  Renault en Honda hadden het meest bruikbare vermogen, BMW het meeste en tag by Porsche het betrouwbaarst

  Bij demonstraties met de turbo auto's van eind jaren '70 en jaren '80 is afgesproken dat die dingen met maximaal 750pk, ongeveer 75% van het vermogen beschikbaar in de race, af te stellen.
  Dus die special met Lewis Hamilton door Jeremy Clarkson gemaakt dat hij een dahje met de McLaren-Honda MP4/4 mag spelen is met maar 60% van het vermogen wat beschikbaar was in kwalificatie en dan was de MP4/4 al flink geknepen.
  De Lotus 98T met de special over auto's waar Senna in heeft gereden is dus met maar zo'n 600/750pk en niet met 1350+ in kwalitrim
