Magnussen knoopt gesprekken met andere teams aan

Kevin Magnussen blijft niet eeuwig wachten totdat Renault de knoop over zijn toekomst doorhakt. De Deen is actief op zoek naar onderdak voor 2017. Dat kan bij zijn huidige werkgever, maar bij een ander team is ook goed. Als hij maar in de Formule 1 kan blijven racen.

Magnussen vertrouwde Ekstra Bladet toe: "Er zijn meer stoeltjes beschikbaar als een nieuw contract bij Renault er voor mij niet in zit, al ligt hier wel mijn prioriteit. Ik wacht nog een beetje langer op hoe het zich bij Renault gaat ontvouwen, maar ik heb wel al met andere teams gesproken."

De plekken bij Renault voor volgend seizoen zijn sowieso onderwerp van discussie en lijken in trek. Sergio Perez en Valtteri Bottas zijn in verband gebracht met een transfer naar de Franse renstal. Bottas zei tegen MTV: "Ik kan niks bevestigen. Ik ben gewend aan dit soort gespeculeer. Je moet niet alles geloven dat ze schrijven. Een deel is waar, maar een groot deel is verzonnen."

Door de naam van Perez kan mogelijk een streep als Renault de handen ineen slaat met Movistar, een concurrent van Telmex, een van de sponsors van Perez. Al is de Mexicaan het daar niet mee eens. "Toen ik naar McLaren ging, was de aanwezigheid van Vodafone ook geen obstakel. De Telmex-familie bevat vele bedrijven, dus er blijven altijd mogelijkheden voor mijn sponsors."
