Rosberg: "Halo hinderde me niet tijdens het rijden"

Nico Rosberg schreef in zijn Mercedes geschiedenis door als eerste coureur een tijd neer te zetten in een auto uitgerust met de halo. De halo werd gisteren door Rosberg, Ricciardo, Sainz Jr, en Hülkenberg aan de tand gevoeld in de eerste vrije training. Het was voor het eerst dat andere teams dan Ferrari en Red Bull met het concept testten.

Waar coureurs zich negatief uitlieten na hun eerste kennismaking met de hoofdbescherming, is Rosberg best positief over het systeem. Volgens de Duitser draagt het systeem op een positieve manier bij aan de veiligheid: "Het was goed om het systeem te proberen en ik denk dat men fantastisch werk heeft geleverd. Het stoorde mij totaal niet tijdens het rijden, het vergroot de veiligheid aanzienlijk. "

"Ik weet dat het er wat gek uit ziet, het maakt de auto's er niet mooier op. Het draagt echter bij aan een betere veiligheid en ik denk dat dat positief is. Wanneer de halo op de auto is gemonteerd merk je niet eens dat het boven je hoofd zit. Ze kunnen het bovenste deel misschien nog wel verlagen", aldus Rosberg in gesprek met Autosport.

    Ik vind het ook absoluut niet uitzien. Maar dat vond ik ook toen ze in 96 de cockpitranden verhoogde. Toen kon je ook veel minder zien van de coureur en zijn handbewegingen. Echter dat redde Jos zijn leven meteen in 96 op Spa. De Halo mag er van mij best komen als dat inderdaad de veiligheid voor de coureurs verhoogd. Hoop alleen dat hij eleganter wordt. Nu is het duidelijk iets dat zo op de wagen is geschroeft en vormt geen geheel met de wagen.

      Ze zijn nu ook allemaal zwart maar als ze straks in de kleur van de auto worden gespoten zal dat een stuk beter lijken.

    Ik snap niet dat er nu ineens volop getest wordt met dat ding, hebben ze nog meer dan een jaar de tijd voor en testen die op deze auto plaatsvinden kunnen volgend jaar met de nieuwe auto's allemaal overgedaan worden.

      De organisatie wil graag dat alle coureurs er voor het eind van seizoen 2016 mee hebben gereden. Dit ook voor de ontwikkeling van het onding.
