Coureurs bekritiseren bandendruk Pirelli in Spa-Francorchamps

Het onderwerp van gesprek dit weekend zijn de banden van Pirelli die tijdens de Grand Prix van België gebruikt mogen worden. Pirelli adviseert de teams om met een hoge bandendruk te rijden, iets wat volgens de coureurs ervoor zorgt dat ze nog beter op hun banden moeten letten. De kritiek van Jenson Button en Lewis Hamilton op Pirelli is niet mals.

De hoge bandendruk is van toepassing vanwege de klapbanden van Mercedes-coureur Nico Rosberg en Ferrari-coureur Sebastian Vettel tijdens het Grand Prix-weekend op Spa-Francorchamps in 2015. De slijtage van de banden is daarnaast erg hoog door de ongebruikelijk hoge temperaturen in de Belgische Ardennen.

Hamilton laat het volgende weten over de situatie met de banden: "De bandendruk is zo hoog, zo heb ik het nog nooit meegemaakt. Door de hoge druk en de hitte gaan de banden veel sneller kapot dan normaal. Als coureur kun je er weinig aan doen."

Volgens Jenson Button is een snelle ronde rijden op de superzachte band schier onmogelijk: "Coureurs moeten extreem voorzichtig zijn om de banden in het juiste raamwerk te krijgen. Je zag al in de kwalificatie dat de jongens op de superzachte band extreem langzaam waren voordat ze hun snelle ronde begonnen. Als ze zouden pushen dan zouden de banden er al zijn wanneer ze in hun snelle ronden bovenaan Eau Rouge zijn. Op deze manier kunnen de coureurs niet pushen tot de limiet."

Sergio Perez van Force India verwacht dat meerdere coureurs last gaan krijgen van hun banden tijdens de race: "Als je tijdens de race iets teveel pusht krijg je al snel blaren op de banden. Het kan je race echt om zeep helpen wanneer je bijvoorbeeld te snel door de eerste sector gaat. Met blaren op de banden zijn deze auto's niet te besturen."

Williams-coureur Felipe Massa noemde de banden tijdens de vrijdagtrainingen zelfs een 'grap': "Ik heb nog nooit in mijn loopbaan te maken gehad met zo'n hoge bandendruk. In combinatie met deze temperaturen voelt het alsof je ballonnen onder je auto hebt zitten. Je weet niet wat je van de banden moet verwachten, ze zijn zo gevoelig."

En toch zijn ze een halve seconde sneller dan vorig jaar... Zo erg zal het allemaal niet zijn lijkt me.

  Op andere circuits is dit 1 tot soms zelfs 2 seconden sneller. Dus relatief gezien zijn ze flink langzamer hier..
