Pirelli verdedigt hoge bandenspanning op Spa

Vanuit vele uithoeken van de paddock op Spa klinkt er kritiek op de keuze van Pirelli om in België met hoge bandenspanning te rijden. Die bandenspanning zorgt ervoor dat er hoge bandenslijtage is, maar de Italiaanse bandenmaker staat nog steeds achter haar keuze.

Felipe Massa heeft de situatie al belachelijk genoemd, en ook Lewis Hamilton is niet blij met de bandenspanning. "De superzachte band is een ramp, want na twee ronden is die kapot." Daar is Jenson Button het mee eens. "In mijn gehele carrière heb ik nog nooit zo moeten rijden als vandaag. Als je aanzet in je opwarmronde ontstaan er blaren en raken ze oververhit. Het is gekkenwerk." Massa gaat nog iets verder in zijn kritiek. "Mijn zoontje van zes zou nog sneller dan mij zijn tijdens een opwarmronde."

Mario Isola van Pirelli begrijpt echter niets van de kritiek van de coureurs en staat nog steeds achter de keuze voor een hoge bandenspanning. "Ik snap niets van de kritieken. De rijders wisten in februari al dat we met deze bandenspanning zouden rijden op snelle circuits."
