'Toekomst van Britse Grand Prix plots in gevaar'

De plek van de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië op de Formule 1-kalender voor de toekomst is opeens onzeker. Silverstone heeft nog een contract om de race tot en met 2026 te organiseren, maar nu de overname door Jaguar Land Rover niet doorgaat is die verbintenis plots minder waard.

Dat schrijft journalist Christian Sylt in The Independent. Jaguar Land Rover had 43 miljoen dollar over voor Silverstone. Eigenaar British Racing Drivers' Club treuzelde echter zo lang dat de deal nu van tafel is. En ondertussen is directeur Patrick Allen met verlof gestuurd omdat hij te nauwe banden onderhield met een andere partij die een bod op het circuit heeft uitgebracht.

Bernie Ecclestone heeft het recht om de Britse Grand Prix te laten vallen. Aan Sylt vertelde hij: "Iemand moet nu naar voren stappen om de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië te redden."
