President Lombardije: "Formule 1 blijft in Monza"

Niets zal een contractverlenging voor de Grand Prix van Italië op Monza nog in de weg staan. Het enige dat nog ontbreekt is een officiële aankondiging. Roberto Maroni, president van de regio Lombardije, liep op Facebook alvast op de zaken vooruit. "De Formule 1 blijft in Monza."

Hij vervolgde met: "We zijn daar zeer tevreden mee." Eerder op de dag lekten al details over de nieuwe verbintenis voor Monza uit. Het persbericht is al opgesteld en lag klaar in het mediacentrum. Daaruit bleek dat Italië tot en met 2019 verzekerd zal zijn van een Grand Prix. Het wachten is nu op de bevestiging.

Het huidige contract loopt dit jaar af. Monza is sinds de start van het wereldkampioenschap Formule 1 in 1950 het decor voor de Italiaanse Grand Prix. Alleen in 1980 maakte de koningsklasse van de autosport een uitstapje naar Imola.
