Brits feestje op Monza winnend afgesloten door Jake Dennis

De eerste GP3-race van het weekend in Italië is uitgedraaid op een Brits feestje. Jake Dennis pakte de zege en bleef landgenoten Jack Aitken en Jake Hughes voor. Charles Leclerc werd vierde en verstevigde zo zijn leiding in het kampioenschap. ART won het kampioenschap van de teams, mede dankzij een zevende plaats van Nyck de Vries.

Leclerc startte de race nog wel van pole position, maar lang kon hij niet van de leiding genieten. Na vijf ronden passeerde Arden-coureur Dennis de Monegask, enkele ronden later deed diens teamgenoot Aitken hetzelfde. Vanaf dat moment werd het een duel tussen Dennis en Aitken, die Dennis in zijn voordeel wist te beslechten. Hughes moest van verder komen, maar hij knokte zich gaandeweg door het veld heen naar een derde plaats. In de laatste ronden wist hij zelfs Aitken nog onder druk te zetten, maar een positiewisseling kwam er niet.

Nyck de Vries zorgde er met een zevende plaats voor dat hij in de top vijf van het kampioenschap blijft staan. Het kampioenschap voor de teams werd al wel beslist in het voordeel van het team van De Vries, ART Grand Prix. Steijn Schothorst behaalde een dertiende plaats en zal ook vanaf die plaats vertrekken in de race morgenochtend. De Vries start dan als tweede, achter Antonio Fuoco.
