Het team van McLaren maakte afgelopen weekend de line-up voor 2017 bekend. Daarin ruimde het wel plek in voor Jenson Button, maar niet meer als racecoureur. Hij blijft als ambassadeur en testrijder aan de Britse renstal verbonden. De wereldkampioen van 2009 betreedt een volgende fase in zijn carrière, dit is de volgende stap voor Button.
