'Paddy Lowe staat in belangstelling van Ferrari'

Het team van Ferrari heeft een oogje laten vallen op Paddy Lowe, de technische baas bij Mercedes. Dat gerucht circuleert in de paddock in Singapore. In Maranello zien ze in Lowe de ideale persoon om de Scuderia richting nieuwe successen te dirigeren.

Ferrari-coureur Sebastian Vettel kreeg in Singapore vragen over een mogelijke komst van Lowe. "Als iemand van zijn kaliber beschikbaar is, dan moet je daar natuurlijk over nadenken. Maar voor zover ik weet is hij niet beschikbaar."

Lowe is sinds 1987 werkzaam in de Formule 1. Hij begon bij Williams en maakte na 1993 de overstap naar McLaren, waar hij in 2011 benoemd werd tot technisch directeur. In 2013 lijfde Mercedes hem in als directeur technische zaken.

@AyrtonS: Brawn is al 3 jaar weg en in de Formule 1 is dat een eeuwigheid. Als zijn nalatenschap enige invloed heeft gehad, dan is deze in technisch opzicht binnen een seizoen weer verdampt geweest.       Wie zijn er beter dan? Ik kan er op zeker geen noemen op dit moment. Natuurlijk is het moeilijk te bepalen wat de impact van Lowe is op een grote organisatie als Mercedes.
      Maar het is wel een van de drijfveren geweest in het huidige succes van Mercedes.

      Lowe weet precies hoe het gaat bij Mercedes en zou bij Ferrari een soortgelijke structuur kunnen toepassen, alleen zou hij denk ik eisen dat er meer mensen komen. Nu is het extra zonde dat Allison weg is. Plus je koopt een goede kracht bij de concurrentie weg!

Dus ja, in een gespreid bedje te komen liggen dat was het misschien zeker wel voor Lowe. Maar Lowe heeft zelf de afgelopen jaren Mercedes echt wel verrijkt. Iets wat de grote Brawn niet meer kon of niet meer wilde. Dat laat ik in het midden.

      Is iets zeer normaal, in elke professionele sector. Een Team bouw je op ervaring en jeugdig dynamisme. Goede mensen halen kan voor een versneld succes zorgen. Dus heel normaal in mijn ogen...

    Dit is nu net het probleem van Ferrari, ze hebben geen absolute toppers in hun staf zoals destijds met Brown & Todd & Schumi aan het stuur, Todd was niet te evenaren team-principal die de Scuderia vanuit een zeer diepe slop wist te halen en zo'n spilfiguur missen ze daar.
    Paddy zou mits een berg $$$ mss de overstap maken maar zal het tij daar niet doen keren

      Z hebben in die tussentijd weer een aantal aardige toppers gehad. Maar als die niet de tijd en zeggenschap krijgen die ze nodig hebben gaat het ook met Paddy niets worden.

      Hij is niet dé man die ginds de leiding moet krijgen, mogelijks wel een belangrijke schakel in een team van mensen met kennis en ervaring. Todt heeft ook aan de weg moeten timmeren - van Co-piloot en teamleader bij Peugeot tot succesvol teamleader bij de Scuderia. Hij deed er ook een hele poos over.

    Het probleem zit 'm niet in een paar top mensen van buiten Italië. Het is meer de grote grijze massa daaronder waar de kwaliteit niet van het niveau is als in de regio waar alle andere top teams in Engeland zitten.

    Als Lowe de lijnen uit kan zetten en de juiste mensen op de juiste plek kan neerzetten, is hij wellicht de man die het chaotische Ferrari wat structuur kan bieden. Want dat is waar het in mijn optiek aan schort: een duidelijke structuur en consistent beleid. Het lijkt nu allemaal veel te ad-hoc, en dan ben je veel te veel van geluk afhankelijk om de goede richting op te gaan.
    Ferrari heeft natuurlijk wel het potentieel om elk jaar serieus mee te doen om het kampioenschap. Voor Lowe wel een mooie uitdaging, lijkt me.

    Waarom Lowe? Hij kwam aan boord bij MB toen de structuur er al lag. Bij McLaren heeft ie het ook niet helemaal waar kunnen maken.
