Whitmarsh genoemd als opvolger van Ecclestone

De toekomst van Bernie Ecclestone als commerciële baas van de Formule 1 is ongewis. Heeft hij nu wel of niet een nieuw driejarig contract op zak? En heeft hij nu wel of niet al ruzie gemaakt met Liberty Media-baas John Malone? Is dat laatste wel het geval, dan kan het einde van het tijdperk Ecclestone nabij zijn.

Vooralsnog hullen alle partijen zich in nevelen. Britse media als The Guardian, The Times en The Telegraph melden nu dat Liberty Media de leiding over de Formule 1 op gaat splitsen in twee rollen. Er komt een commerciële tak en een sportieve tak. En voor de sportieve tak is de naam van voormalig McLaren-teambaas Martin Whitmarsh gevallen.

Een bron uit de omgeving van Whitmarsh vertrouwde de Daily Mail toe: "Martin mist de Formule 1 enorm en zou zeker te porren zijn voor een leidinggevende rol." Voor de sportieve tak zijn ook Christian Horner, Ross Brawn, Stefano Domenicali en Toto Wolff genoemd, terwijl voor de commerciële tak Alejandro Agag en Zak Brown in aanmerking komen.

    Als we dan toch namen gaan noemen . Ik vind Flavio Briatore wel een mooie opvolger.

      Denk serieus dat Briatore de enige is die op dezelfde sluwe manier kan handelen als Ecclestone. Alle andere namen heb ik toch het idee van dat ze wat eerlijker zullen zijn in hun doen en laten.

      Weet alleen niet wat nu de beste eigenschap is voor deze rol; Ecclestone kreeg wel altijd alles voor elkaar ;)

      @Neor, maar de vraag is; wil je wel een sluwe vos? Liberty, die de uitzendrechten heeft gekocht, pleit voor een transparante en eerlijke manier van doen en past daar een sluw en flamboyant persoon bij? Ik weet het niet. Ik kan me wel voorstellen dat ze na jaren Ecclestone een verandering willen en van het genoemde rijtje zou Horner daar goed in passen qua persoon vind ik. Whitmarsh het minst, is mij net teveel manager type.
