Pirelli stelt introductie prototype band uit naar 2017

In Spa en Monza kregen de Formule 1-teams de kans om het 2017 prototype band van Pirelli aan de tand te voelen. Oorspronkelijk stond een introductie van de band gepland voor de Grand Prix van Maleisië. De reden voor het uitstel is inconsistentie in de data die door verschillende teams is aangeleverd.

Pirelli heeft een nieuw type van de zachte band ontwikkeld om beter beschermd te zijn tegen de krachten van bijvoorbeeld kerbstones. Volgens Maria Isola, manager van de raceafdeling van Pirelli, klaagden sommige teams over een gebrek aan grip terwijl andere de banden hetzelfde aan vonden voelen.

Isola over de uitkomsten van de analyse en de reden de introductie uit te stellen: "Na het analyseren van alle data zijn we tot de conclusie gekomen dat er teveel inconsistentie in de data zit. De feedback was verschillend en daarom hebben we besloten de huidige zachte band de rest van het jaar aan te houden. Ik wil benadrukken dat de huidige specificatie van de zachte band honderd procent veilig is."

Pirelli laat wel weten door te gaan met de ontwikkeling van het prototype om het te kunnen onderwerpen aan een test met de nieuwe banden voor 2017. De banden zullen in 2017 een stuk breder zijn dan nu, dit geeft de auto's meer grip en snelheid in de bochten.
