Honda vergroot capaciteit van Britse uitvalsbasis

Honda heeft het Britse hoofdkwartier van het Formule 1-project in Milton Keynes uitgebreid. De Japanse autofabrikant heeft de capaciteit vergroot met het oog op toekomstige klantenteams. Honda is op dit moment exclusief verbonden aan McLaren, maar de FIA verwacht van motorleveranciers dat ze meerdere renstallen van krachtbronnen kunnen voorzien.

Honda wil in de toekomst ook meerdere teams aan zich binden en treft daar alvast voorbereidingen voor. Yusuke Hasegawa, Formule 1-baas bij het Japanse merk, deelde aan Autosport mede: "Op dit moment hebben we niet de ruimte om motoren te leveren aan een tweede team, terwijl dat wel zou moeten. We dienen meer middelen beschikbaar te stellen en de organisatie daarop in te richten. Misschien kunnen we dan eind volgend jaar zeggen dat we klaar zijn voor een klantenteam."

"We hebben de fabriek in Milton Keynes reeds uitgebreid. Het is geen gigantische fabriek, maar groot genoeg om diensten te verlenen aan een tweede team. Mocht de situatie zich voordoen dat we met een klantenteam in zee gaan en twee renstallen van motoren moeten voorzien, dan hoeven we alleen nog maar extra engineers aan te nemen. We hebben genoeg lege bureaus over."
