De dag van de eerste steen voor de Nürburgring

Het is vandaag exact 91 jaar geleden dat men begon met de bouw van de Nürburgring. De eerste steen voor het circuit in de Duitse Eifel werd op 27 september 1925 gelegd. De huidige Nürburgring is in twee stukken te verdelen; het moderne GP-circuit en de historische Nordschleife. De baan staat tegenwoordig niet meer op de Formule 1-kalender, maar gelukkig vinden er jaarlijks nog genoeg andere mooie autosportactiviteiten plaats.

    Bijna 100 jaar geleden met primitieve middelen een baan aanleggen die 100 jaar later nog tot de verbeelding spreekt. Kan Tilke met al z'n technische hulpmiddelen en data alleen maar van dromen.

      Sja, in een tijd waarin een gemeente of provincie nog een lap grond beschikbaar wilde stellen om een 23km lang circuit te kunnen aanleggen.
      Daarbij vloek ik in de kerk, maar de Nordschleife is niet heel geweldig qua bochtenwerk. Het zijn het slechte asfalt waardoor je zoekt naar grip, de gebrekkige veiligheidsvoorzieningen die je op scherp houden en het feit dat de kruinen van de bomen over je heen buigen wat de beleving zo geweldig maakt. Maar leg deze baan aan in een woestijn met dezelfde hoogteverschillen maar met de moderne veiligheidstandaarden en het is slechts een matig circuit.

      Ieder circuit met 7km uitloopstrook is matig. Spa was ooit ook vele malen uitdagender. Bathurst is zo'n baan waar nog op de cm gereden moet worden, verwijder de boarding, leg lange uitloopstroken aan en het is ook een doorsnee baan die alleen nog interessant is door het hoogteverschil.

      Vanzelfsprekend snap ik dat het geen eerlijke vergelijking is, maar de aantrekkingskracht van een circuit wordt niet bepaald door enkel en alleen t parcours; het zijn alle factoren die een circuit geweldig kunnen maken en de Nordschleife is imo een fenomenaal circuit.
      Ondanks dat je niet lyrisch bent over het bochtenwerk.
      Het is ook het glooiende karakter, de bomen, het slingerende parcours afgewisseld met strakke bossige rechte straights.. Naja, iedereen kent het. Ik heb altijd heel sterk een 'holy ground'-gevoel als ik op een oud/historisch circuit ben.

      @BERI: Tja, jij zal het wel weten.... Het oude circuit was mateloos populair bij (F1) rijders én publiek. Het was zo 'anspruchsvoll' dat de rijders het niet voor niets de Groene Hel noemden.

    Wel jammer dat deze baan niet meer op de Kalender staat. Maar inderdaad er gebeuren nog genoeg evenementen elk jaar oa. de 24 uurs ADAC race, Motorraces, Oldtimer races, etc. Helaas lees ik ook in de regionale kranten hier dat er ook heel veel ongevallen gebeuren, en dan met name op de Noordschleife. Knikken in de baan met springschansen erin waar heel vaak crashes gebeuren, maar ook ontzettend veel amateurs die voor een bepaald bedrag met hun eigen opgevoerde rammelbak een paar rondjes over de Noordschleife mogen maken waarbij helaas zo nu en dan er van die overmoedige gasten tussen zitten die tussen 6 plankjes het Circuit vervolgens verlaten.

      @Ralph: Hij is wel oud, maarnet niet zo oud. Zo bekeken heeft het ene F1 fossiel het net wat oudere F1 fossiel de nek om gedraaid vanwege de knikkers...
