BRDC stelt deadline voor verkoop Silverstone in

De British Racing Drivers' Club wil voor het einde van deze maand een koper voor Silverstone gevonden hebben. De BRDC onderhandelt met vier overnamekandidaten; Jaguar Land Rover, Ginetta-eigenaar Lawrence Tomlinson, MotorSport Vision van Jonathan Palmer en een nog onbekende vierde partij. De tijd om Silverstone te verkopen is aangebroken.

BRDC-voorzitter Derek Warwick legde aan Autosport uit: "We hebben nu gezegd dat we voor het einde van oktober een overeenkomst willen sluiten. Het is complexe materie. We hebben nu een deadline van eind oktober in het leven geroepen, maar ik steek mijn hand er niet voor in het vuur dat het voor die tijd ook echt lukt. We hebben zoveel te beoordelen en te evalueren, maar toch hoop ik dat we voor volgende maand een koper voor Silverstone hebben."

De onbekende vierde partij, waarschijnlijk een overzees consortium, blijkt goede papieren te hebben. "Zij hebben op dit moment het beste bod uitgebracht, maar er is nog een lange weg te gaan. Het gaat om de details. Ik wil er zeker van zijn dat we over twintig jaar nog steeds prettig samen kunnen werken. Het heeft geen zin om iemand aan boord te brengen die we over vijf jaar spuugzat zijn, dus er rust een grote verantwoordelijkheid op de schouders van de BRDC."
