Jorge Lorenzo test een Mercedes op Silverstone

MotoGP-coureur Jorge Lorenzo heeft donderdag mogen proeven aan een Formule 1-machine. De Spanjaard kroop in een Mercedes W05 uit 2014 voor een testsessie op het circuit van Silverstone. De test was gearrangeerd door Monster Energy, sponsor van zowel Lorenzo als Mercedes.

De drievoudig MotoGP-kampioen heeft genoten van zijn kennismaking met de Formule 1. Lorenzo: "Het was een geweldige dag. Ik ben zeer tevreden over de tijden uit mijn laatste run. Volgens de engineers waren die rondetijden zeer competitief." Er zijn geen tijden vrijgegeven.

Lorenzo vervolgt: "De auto rijdt zo vloeiend. Ik verwachtte dat het moeilijker zou zijn om zo'n bolide te besturen, maar het was vrij makkelijk. De wagen is heel snel in de bochten en de grip is onwerkelijk. De kracht is vergelijkbaar met de MotoGP, maar de bochten zijn een wereld van verschil."
