Gridstraf voor Pascal Wehrlein na versnellingsbakwissel

Manor-coureur Pascal Wehrlein ontvangt na de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Japan een gridstraf van vijf plaatsen wegens het wisselen van de versnellingsbak. Volgens de reglementen dient een versnellingsbak zes weekenden mee te gaan, de bak van Wehrlein zat nog niet aan die levensduur.

De bak in de MRT05 van de uittredend DTM-kampioen was niet stuk, maar Manor zag op de data een aantal afwijkende waarden die de rest van het weekend voor problemen zouden kunnen zorgen. Uit voorzorg is daarom besloten de bak te wisselen en de straf te nemen. Veel zal het niet uitmaken, Manor lijkt dit weekend veroordeeld tot startplaatsen op de laatste twee rijen van de startopstelling.
