Ecclestone mengt zich in de discussie over tests

De Formule 1-paddock is in twee kampen verdeeld. Een aantal teams wil ter voorbereiding op het seizoen 2017 testen in Bahrein, maar is daarbij gestuit op felle oppositie van andere renstallen. Mercedes voert de ene groepering aan, terwijl Red Bull Racing het verzet leidt.

Bernie Ecclestone heeft zich nu ook met de kwestie bemoeid, bericht Auto Motor und Sport. De commerciële baas van de Formule 1 zou eerst Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner gebeld hebben met het verzoek om zijn weerstand tegen testen in Bahrein te staken.

De Brit zou een voorkeur gehad hebben voor een test in het oliestaatje. Toen hij echter hoorde dat hij zich daarmee achter Mercedes schaarde, heeft Ecclestone zijn mening direct bijgesteld. Hij is nu voorstander van wintertesten in Barcelona, zoals te doen gebruikelijk is.

Volgens Auto Motor und Sport speelt mee dat nieuwe Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media een territorium aan het afbakenen is en dat Ecclestone alles dat zijn macht in kan dammen verdacht vindt. De commerciële baas van de Formule 1 geeft het heft niet zomaar uit handen.

      Hoofdzakelijk is de boodschap:
      Bernie heeft weer ergens zijn neus ingeduwd, zonder eerst na te denken.
      Daarna heeft ie toch maar een andere standpunt gekozen. #kontendraaier

    Het is niet erg handig om het artikel te vervolgen met: "De Brit..." aangezien dit zowel op Horner als Ecclestone kan slaan.
    Ik moest twee keer lezen om te begrijpen wat er nou bedoeld wordt.

    Kijk Bernie wil de dominantie van Mercedes terugbrengen dat is al langer bekend en Horner heeft hem gezegd dat Mercedes baat heeft bij die test in Bahrein door daar de koeling te testen wat in Barcelona minder goed kan.
