Virgin Racing begroot televisiegelden zo laag mogelijk in

Virgin Racing is voor de toekomst niet afhankelijk van een plaats bij de eerste tien teams en de bijbehorende televisiegelden in 2010. De Britse renstal gaat bij de begroting uit van de laagst mogelijke bijdrage van de FOM. Dat verklapte teamdirecteur Graeme Lowdon aan Autosport. Sportief gezien is de tiende positie bij constructeurs wel het doel.

Lowdon: De tiende klassering zou mooi zijn! Ons doel is zo hoog mogelijk eindigen in het kampioenschap. Vanuit technisch oogpunt zetten we onze zinnen op die tiende plek, maar commercieel gezien zijn we er altijd vanuit gegaan dat we de laagste hoeveelheid inkomsten van de commerciële rechtenhouder zouden krijgen. Een voorschot nemen op televisiegelden die we wellicht niet in de wacht slepen is een model zoals in het voetbal gewoon is, maar voor ons niet wenselijk. We moeten niet in een droomwereld gaan leven. Sportief gezien is de tiende plek het mikpunt, maar commercieel maakt het niets uit als we elfde of twaalfde eindigen. Ons voortbestaan komt niet in gevaar, wij zullen niet verdwijnen, integendeel zelfs!
