Williams op zoek naar extra snelheid op Circuit of the Americas

Met beide auto's buiten de top tien kan het team van Williams niet tevreden zijn. In de ochtendtraining liep het nog prima, maar in de middag zakten Valtteri Bottas en Felipe Massa terug naar een veertiende en zestiende plek. In de strijd met Force India om de vierde plek in het constructeurskampioenschap is het van belang dat de auto meteen op snelheid is, Williams heeft het op dat vlak nog niet voor elkaar.

Valtteri Bottas reed in de ochtend een paar rondjes met de halo, zijn eerste keer. In de middag kwam de Fin tot een veertiende tijd: "Het liep zoals het moest lopen, ik kende geen problemen. We hebben de drie verschillende bandencompounds geprobeerd. De balans van de auto was meteen goed, maar we moeten nog meer snelheid uit het pakket weten te halen."

In de andere FW38 kwam Felipe Massa tot een zestiende tijd. De Braziliaan is nog niet tevreden met de snelheid in de korte runs: "In de kwalificatieruns zijn we nog niet zo sterk, we moeten nog uitzoeken hoe dat komt. Het is een combinatie van verschillende dingen. Het wordt dit weekend weer een stevig gevecht met Force India, hopelijk kunnen wij het deze keer in ons voordeel beslechten."
