Williams oefent met experimentele voorvleugel

Het team van Williams reed vrijdag tijdens de eerste vrije trainingen voor de Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten met een voorvleugel die is gebaseerd op de voorvleugel voor 2017. Aanstaande vrijdag in Mexico zal de Britse renstal dat opnieuw doen. De voorvleugel wordt volgend jaar 150 millimeter breder en Williams bereidt zich daar alvast op voor.

Technisch directeur Pat Symonds legt uit: "Hier in Austin reden we met een experimentele voorvleugel en dat doen we straks in Mexico weer. Het is meer experimenteel dan echt een ontwikkeling met het oog op 2017. Het is een oefening voor de correlatie. We maakten er in de vrije trainingen in de VS gebruik van en doen dat in de vrije trainingen in Mexico opnieuw. We moeten een bepaalde hoeveelheid data verzamelen."

"Bij ingrijpende regelwijzigingen ben je continu in de windtunnel bezig om de auto verder te ontwikkelen. Normaal kom je bij de ontwikkeling van de nieuwe wagen soms wel iets tegen dat te goed is om te bewaren tot het volgende seizoen. Alleen nu is er eigenlijk niets van de bolides voor volgend jaar relevant voor de auto's van nu. Laatst vonden we iets dat heel goed werkte op de nieuwe auto en we probeerden het voor de gein ook in de windtunnel uit op het schaalmodel van de huidige wagen, maar dat werkte totaal niet."

ik heb zo'n vermoeden dat ze daar wel weten wat wel of niet zinvol is.
Je kunt ze voor de zekerheid even een belletje geven...

De banden worden breder dan dat ze nu zijn, dus die bredere voor vleugel zal een heel andere werking hebben lijkt me.
En iets voor"de gein" uitproberen komt ook niet erg professioneel over.
