Will Palmer na eerste F1-test: "Echt ongelofelijk"

Will Palmer, het jongere broertje van Renault-coureur Jolyon Palmer heeft gisteren kennisgemaakt met de Formule 1. Als beloning voor het winnen van de McLaren Autosport BRDC Award in 2015 mocht hij met een McLaren MP4-26 testen op het circuit van Silverstone.

Onder toeziend oog van de voor de award van dit jaar genomineerde Ricky Collard, Sennan Fielding, Lando Norris en Toby Sowery voltooide de 19-jarige Brit drie runs van ieder vijf ronden. Palmer stamelde na afloop tegenover Autosport: "Ik was vooraf vrij nerveus. Dit was echt ongelofelijk, onvergelijkbaar met alles dat ik tot nu toe gedaan heb."

"Het vermogen, de remmen, de downforce en gewoon hoe de auto echt een geheel was. Ongelooflijk hoe groot de stap is met wat ik gewend was. Gelukkig bleef het droog en kon ik er het beste van maken. Een McLaren en Silverstone, een bijzondere combinatie. Deze dag zal me de rest van mijn leven bijblijven."

..en dan reed hij nog niet eens bij Haas... Daar doen de remmen het af en toe niet...dat zou pas echt 'ongelooflijk' zijn.
