Wehrlein ervaart de druk van Ocon als positief

Esteban Ocon zet Pascal Wehrlein meer onder druk bij Manor Racing dan eerder met Rio Haryanto het geval was. Dat vindt de Duitser helemaal niet erg. Het dwingt hem om zijn eigen niveau te verhogen en het motiveert hem om beter te presteren.

Wehrlein: "Ik hou wel van druk. De komst van Ocon heeft voor een interessante situatie gezorgd. Ik denk dat mensen ons gevecht in de gaten houden, misschien meer dan ze dat voorheen deden met Rio Haryanto en mij. Dat is alleen maar goed. Ik heb natuurlijk gekeken naar wat hij anders doet en wat zijn sterke punten zijn. Daar leer ik van, net als dat ik geprobeerd heb van Rio te leren."

De Duitser ziet een extra jaar bij Manor wel zitten. "Ik denk dat Manor grote stappen heeft gemaakt ten opzichte van vorig seizoen en ik gok dat dit komend jaar ook mogelijk is. Het zou een prachtig verhaal zijn als ik samen met Manor verder naar voren kan schuiven op de grid. Ik ben ook betrokken bij de ontwikkelingen voor komend seizoen, dus we zullen zien."

    Als nieuwkomer hoor je elke wedstrijd je ballen uit je broek te rijden, om je in de kijker te rijden. Je krijgt maar een kans, en die moet je grijpen.

      Nee, hij heeft geen motivatie nodig.
      Zelfs als je overtuigd bent dat je je 100% inzet, maar iemand naast je is toch sneller, dan moet je dus gaan zoeken om het nóg beter te doen. Het is bijzonder moeilijk om dat te beseffen en vervolgens te vinden als je daartoe niet wordt gestimuleerd door een andere coureur.
      Je zag hetzelfde met Ricciardo toen Max kwam, die moest én kon ook nog een tandje bijschakelen en meer snelheid vinden. En hij wist niet eens dat hij het in zich had.

      Dat is waarom competitie het beste in mensen (en bedrijven) naar boven haalt. Zonder competitie blijf je hangen en word je uiteindelijk zwakker.

      Dat zwakker worden gebeurde met Riciardo toen Vetttel RBR verliet, hij heeft niet een paar tandjes bijgeschakeld in de rivalry tegen Max, hij is nu weer terug op zijn niveau na even wat rust te hebben gehad tegen Kvyat.

      O srry, ik vergat ik vind. Het is maar mijn bescheiden mening.
      Ik vind ook niet dat je competitie nodig hebt om te verbeteren,
      competitie heb je om te vernederen.

    Totdat hij er achter komt dat Ocon nu al doorschuift naar een beter team en hijzelf bij Manor achter moet blijven.

      totdat hij het jaar daarop doorschuift naar Mercedes omdat Lewis of Nico ermee stopt of elders gaan racen en Ocon Blauwe vlaggen krijgt omdat Wehrlein erlangs moet, blijft koffiedik kijken.

    Ik vindt dat Wehrlein het beter doet dan Ocon tot nu toe.
    Ocon heeft wat meer hype maar de resultaten zijn nu in het voordeel van Werhlein. In de trainingen staat Ocon er vaak voor maar in de qualificatie en de race wint Wehlein meestal en daar gat het om.

      OCO staat er ook niet vaak voor in de kwalificatie. En in een race is hij hooguit 1x sneller geweest dan WEH. Ben het dus volledig met je eens. OCO is een hype en wordt niets....
