BP/Castrol brengt McLaren nog dichter bij Honda

McLaren en Honda lijken de al innige band alleen maar verder te intensiveren met de verwachte overstap van het team naar BP/Castrol als brandstofleverancier. Er gaan hardnekkige geruchten dat de Britse renstal ExxonMobil na 21 jaar kwijtraakt aan Red Bull Racing. McLaren heeft echter snel en adequaat gehandeld door BP/Castrol als vervanger te strikken, al is dat nog niet bevestigd.

Motorenpartner Honda ziet een samenwerking met Castrol in elk geval wel zitten. De Japanse autofabrikant en de Britse oliemaatschappij hebben reeds een hechte band. Zij zijn al aan elkaar verbonden in de MotoGP, in het WK Superbike en in het World Touring Car Championship. Castrol heeft ook een verleden met McLaren. In 1979 en 1980 werkten zij samen.

Racing director Eric Boullier: "Als je nu van technische partner zou veranderen voor een belangrijk aspect binnen je organisatie, dan is er nog genoeg tijd voor de nieuwe partner om te ontwikkelen en door te gaan waar de vorige partner is gestopt." Yusuke Hasegawa van Honda voegt toe: "Olie en smeermiddelen vormen natuurlijk een belangrijk bestanddeel voor de aandrijflijn."

      Of die misschien gevonden gaat worden wanneer Ron Dennis met pensioen is.

      Uit een eerser artikel begreep ik dat ron denbis niet meer geloofdt in een titel sponsor. Maar ik zie ook de castrol livery wel zitten

    Volgens verschillende bronnen is het McLaren dat afscheid heeft genomen van ExxonMobil vanwege het geld en de nauwe banden met Honda.

      Ik wilde het net ook tikken, maar volgens mij is het andersom en heeft Exxon snel gehandeld en zichzelf aangeboden bij RBR waar de relatie tussen Total en Renault steeds meer onder druk staat en RBR met de loskoppeling van Renault door hun motor Tag Heuer te noemen ook makkelijk(er) van brandstoffen leverancier kan wisselen.

      Dat is niet makkelijker, Petronas levert voor alle mercedes teams ook de smeermiddelen en de brandstof bijvoorbeeld.
      De Tag-Heuer achterin de RedBull is alleen naamplaatje, verder is het een door Renault geleverde unit inclusief de door Total geleverde peut en vloeistoffen, dat is niet zomaar effe te vervangen door een andere leverancier zonder kinderziektes.

      RedBull zou bij het ontwikkelen van een eigen aandrijflijn er weer wel baat bij hebben.
      Porsche en Mobil hebben een goede band gehad in het verleden.

      Voordat Ferrari van agip overging naar Shell was Shell hofleverancier van de succesvolle periode van Honda in de F1 bij McLaren Honda

      redbull heeft gebrainstormd voor eigen motoren zal ook niet komen...duurt te lang en is toch nog vrij kostbaar om te starten.... Mits ze cosworth kunnen overkopen en verder kunnen ontwikkelen aan iets maar dan ben al weer 4 5 jaar verder... zal wel goed komen denk :p
