Verstappen nuchter onder alle complimenten

Red Bull Racing-coureur Max Verstappen is na zijn fabelachtige optreden in de Braziliaanse Grand Prix bedolven onder de complimenten. De jonge Nederlander reed in de slotfase van de wedstrijd op het circuit van Sao Paulo van de zestiende naar de derde plaats. Zijn inhaalrace is al vergeleken met legendarische races van grootheden als Ayrton Senna en Michael Schumacher.

Zelf blijft Verstappen redelijk nuchter onder alle loftuitingen. "Het is allemaal heel mooi wat er geschreven en gezegd is, maar het is belangrijk om rustig en neutraal te blijven. Je moet je altijd blijven verbeteren, want het is nooit goed genoeg", vertelde de 19-jarige Red Bull Racing-coureur bij een bezoek aan een Pepe Jeans-winkel in Amsterdam.

Het mooiste gebaar kwam van drievoudig kampioen Niki Lauda, die in de paddock op Interlagos symbolisch zijn pet afnam en een diepe buiging maakte in de richting van Jos Verstappen. Lauda heeft zich wel eens kritisch uitgelaten over Max Verstappen, maar was nu complimenteus. "Dat doet hij niet heel vaak. Heel mooi om te zien dat Lauda dat naar mijn vader toe deed."

Verstappen was in Brazilië continu op zoek naar waar de grip was en vond die ook. "Ik had achter de safety car al veel verschillende racelijnen uitgeprobeerd. Ik was eigenlijk een beetje aan het karten, alleen dan in een grotere auto. Dat is net als in de Formule 1 op de limiet rijden, een beetje glijden, een beetje glibberen."

    waar komt eigenlijk het verhaal vandaan dat Lauda zelden zn pet afneemt? ik heb m dat al zo vaak zien doen, zelfs in opeenvolgende races of na een kwalificatie.

    Een Lewis fan bij Nicole in F1Report te gast was (Sam nogwat) noemde het vooral geluk dat Max op het juiste moment remt en geen ongelukken veroorzaakt, plus de goede banden heeft terwijl de rest oude banden heeft. Dat was waarschijnlijk de eerste en laatste keer dat hij te gast was daar. Snapt echt niets van F1 die Sam en kan het niet hebben dat Lewis niet meer degene is met het meeste talent. De FanBase van Max is wereldwijd groeiende !!

    Goed zo Max, 1 race maakt nog geen WK! :)
    Maar dat je talent hebt en een speciale gave hebt,is duidelijk. De laatste races ben je iets in het voordeel tov je teamgenoot, en dat in vergelijking met toen je net begon bij RBR. Er is progressie. Ook heb je een dip gehad, maar dan ben je uit ook weer snel uitgekomen. Dus ja, op naar de volgende stap.
