'Aki Hintsa revolutioneerde de Formule 1'

De Formule 1-wereld is in rouw na de dood van Aki Hintsa, de voormalig dokter van McLaren. De Fin werd slechts 58 jaar. Van over de hele wereld stroomden steunbetuigingen en condoleances bij zijn familie binnen. Rijders spreken unaniem vol lof over Aki Hintsa.

Oud Formule 1-coureur Mika Salo sprak met MTV over de voormalig McLaren-dokter: "Aki heeft de Formule 1 gerevolutioneerd. Hij voorzag veel coaches die nu nog met rijders bezig van een nieuw perspectief. Aki heeft de mentaliteit van een hoop coureurs veranderd."

In een eerbetoon van McLaren staat: "Aki Hintsa is ons veel te jong ontvallen, maar hij heeft meer in zijn korte leven gepropt dan anderen die twee keer zo lang leefden. Hij verlichtte de levens van iedereen die hij ontmoette; vriendelijk, grappig, aardig en wijs als hij was."

Ik kende hem ook niet, maar een van de vele grote krachten die op de achtergrond opperen bij de verschillende F1 teams.

Het feit dat teams hun eigen arts hebben geeft al aan dat het blijkbaar nodig is in deze tak van sport, zowel voor de coureurs als de teamleden.
