Liberty Media mikt op avondrace in Las Vegas

Een uitbreiding van de Formule 1-kalender behoort tot de mogelijkheden na de overname van de sport door Liberty Media. Dit jaar bestond het schema uit 21 Grands Prix, een recordaantal, en ook voor 2017 staan er 21 races op het programma, al zijn sommige evenementen nog niet zeker van hun plek. Liberty ziet echter ruimte om de kalender verder uit te breiden.

Vooral in eigen land liggen volgens het Amerikaanse mediabedrijf nog kansen om te groeien. Volgens Reuters verkondigde Liberty-directeur Greg Maffei aan investeerders bij de Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecoms Conference: "Een stijging van het aantal races is - tot op een bepaalde hoogte - in ieders belang. De FIA verdient meer geld, de teams verdienen meer geld en wij verdienen meer geld."

"Natuurlijk bestaan er grenzen aan hoeveel races je in een jaar kunt proppen, al is het alleen al om de auto's en het materiaal van de ene naar de andere locatie te vervoeren. Toch denk ik dat we een milde groei van het aantal Grands Prix kunnen verwachten. Met name het idee voor een avondrace in Las Vegas bevalt me wel."

      inderdaad zo om een uur of 7 maar dat is op zich niet het probleem. Ik denk dat ze vergeten dat de meeste Europeses autosportfans op dat moment naar hun werk moeten.

      Donderdag trainen, vrijdag kwalificeren en zaterdag racen, kunnen we mooi zondag ochtend kijken.
      En je houdt de christenen in the USA tevreden.

      Oei, laat maar zitten al die avond races, komt zo artificieel over, kan er steeds niet aan wennen of ligt dat aan de baan zoals die van Singapore, in Abu Dhabi valt dit nog wel een beetje mee, maar in een stad neen danku.

    ik zie hawai wel zitten 350 dagen regen per jaar in way ale ale zoon 10000 mm per jaar .
    ook cherrapunjee india is wel mooi is het alleen in dec en jan droog dan is het toch winterstop bij de f1 26461 mm regen kans op een droge race NO .
    in nl valt gemidelt 750 mm regen per jaar
