Rob Smedley wil het iets rustiger aan gaan doen

Williams-engineer Rob Smedley is van plan om over twee tot drie jaar een stapje terug te doen. Daarmee zou de Brit het voorbeeld volgen van zijn goede vriend Felipe Massa, die de Formule 1 na dit jaar voor gezien houdt. Smedley zal de sport echter niet helemaal vaarwel zeggen.

Hij zinspeelt op een iets andere rol voor zichzelf. Smedley liet aan UOL Esporte weten: "Dit staat niet in verband met wat Felipe gaat doen, maar ik reis al bijna twintig jaar naar elke race en dat is een lange periode. Dus ik heb in mijn hoofd dat ik het over twee, drie jaar iets rustiger aan wil gaan doen."

"Voor professionele doeleinden is elke Grand Prix bijwonen iets goeds, maar op het persoonlijke vlak niet echt. Ik mis mijn familie. Ik voel dat de tijd is gekomen om op een andere manier invulling te geven aan mijn werk. Ik blijf onderdeel uitmaken van de Formule 1 en van Williams. Ik ben toegewijd aan de wederopbouw van het team, maar dat houdt niet in dat ik ook de komende twintig jaar elke race moet bezoeken."
