Button neigt naar Super GT en rallycross in 2017

McLaren-coureur Jenson Button is bezig om voor zichzelf een programma voor volgend jaar samen te stellen. De wereldkampioen Formule 1 van 2009 neemt een sabbatical en is van plan om in andere raceklasses uit te komen. De Brit zal niet aan de start van de 24 uur van Le Mans verschijnen. Hij kijkt naar een eenmalig optreden in de Super GT en racen in de rallycross.

Button vertelde aan Autosport: "Ik ben niet gebonden aan projecten met auto's met Honda-motoren, maar die programma's zijn wel het meest toegankelijk voor mij. Het is begrijpelijk dat Honda liever niet heeft dat ik in een auto van een concurrent ga rijden. Ik zal bijvoorbeeld niet in Le Mans racen. De juiste mogelijkheid diende zich niet aan. Misschien iets voor de toekomst."

"Ik ga mogelijk de 1000 kilometer van Suzuka doen. Het zou mooi zijn als we dat voor elkaar krijgen, maar alles draait om de logistiek. Afgezien daarvan wil ik wat rallycross in Amerika gaan doen en zal ik elders nog wat testen in de rallycross. Ik kan heel veel doen. Het is gewoon een kwestie van bepalen hoeveel ik wil gaan doen, of dat ik liever wat meer rust neem."

    Heerlijk toch de situatie van Button. Gewoon nog betaald krijgen door McLaren, lekker doen waar je zin in hebt. Ik snap hem wel, in die McLaren is ook weinig eer te behalen op dit moment.

    Jammer dat hij geen Le Mans mag/kan gaan rijden, die race zou ik toch een keer gereden willen hebben als ik hem was.

    Rallycros is natuurlijk ook gewoon mooi als je zoals Button je centen al verdiend hebt. Als coureur lekker spelen op een offroad circuit, deur aan deur met andere coureurs in auto's die veel te veel vermogen hebben.

    Als je een sabbatical neemt ga je toch iets anders doen? En niet iets waar weer een stuurtje aan te pas komt.
    (Een sabbatical of sabbat(s)jaar is een periode (minimaal een aantal maanden) waarin mensen vrij nemen (of betaald vrij krijgen) en hun gewone beroepsbezigheden onderbreken.)
    Ga toch fietsen man! Oh dat kan niet daar zit ook een stuur aan. Maar goed, je snapt me wel.

      Het enige probleem met jouw redenatie is dat een f1-coureur niet alleen coureur is, maar vooral circusartiest met alle randzaken die bij het racen in zo'n groot kampioenschap komen kijken. Tijdens zijn sabattical kan hij weer lekker racen zonder alle poespas er omheen.
