Zak Brown dolblij met 'vervroegd kerstcadeau'

Zak Brown is verguld met zijn benoeming tot directeur van de McLaren Technology Group. Hij mag zich in gaan spannen voor het verbeteren van de commerciële en sportieve prestaties van een renstal die hem zeer dierbaar is. Brown vertelde aan Autosport: "Ik ben in tijden niet zo gelukkig geweest. Ik voel me net een kind, dolblij met een vervroegd kerstcadeau."

Hij vervolgt: "Het is een heerlijk gevoel. Het is geweldig om door de fabriek in Woking te lopen en er vanuit een ander perspectief naar te kijken. Dit is een mogelijkheid voor mij om aan de slag te gaan voor mijn dream team. Voor mij staat McLaren synoniem aan het tijdperk Ayrton Senna en later het tijdperk Mika Hakkinen. Dit is altijd mijn favoriete Formule 1-team geweest."

"Het voelt fijn dat ik mede leiding mag geven aan wat in mijn ogen het beste Formule 1-team is. Het zijn boeiende tijden om me bij McLaren te voegen. Ze hebben duidelijk een stijgende lijn te pakken. Ik ben opgewonden over mijn rol binnen de organisatie en over de bijdrage die van mij verwacht wordt. Ik heb een goede relatie met alle aandeelhouders."

"Eric Boullier en Jost Capito zijn er verantwoordelijk voor om de auto zo snel mogelijk te maken. Aan ons de opdracht om de economische kant van het verhaal te verbeteren. De bolides van McLaren hebben nog genoeg lege ruimte die we op kunnen vullen met topmerken. Een titelsponsor zou helpen op weg terug richting de top, maar dat geniet niet direct de prioriteit. We hebben gewoon over de gehele linie meer grote partners nodig."

Nou bruine zak, aan de slag dan. Genoeg werk aan de winkel zou ik zeggen.
Ik hoop dat ze McLaren, vooral voor Alonso, wat verder naar voren gaan krijgen.

  Nee, maar McLaren is veel meer dan alleen F1 en waarom zou je tientallen miljoenen per jaar weggooien door vast te blijven houden aan bedragen die Ron Dennis in zijn hoofd heeft. McLaren is nog altijd een A-merk en Brown gaat ervoor zorgen dat de auto er niet langer uitziet als een kale GP2-auto.
