Canada bereikt akkoord over Grand Prix in 2017

Canada lijkt haar plek op de Formule 1-kalender voor volgend seizoen veiliggesteld te hebben. De race op het Circuit Gilles Villeneuve stond onder voorbehoud op het voorlopige schema omdat beloftes over renovatiewerkzaamheden aan de baan niet zijn nagekomen.

Denis Coderre, de burgemeester van Montreal, heeft nu echter via Twitter verkondigd: "Principeakkoord bereikt tussen de Formule 1 en raceorganisator Octane. Er zal ook in 2017 een Grand Prix in Canada plaatsvinden." La Presse voegde eraan toe dat de kaartverkoop voor het evenement op donderdag van start gaat.

De aankondiging van burgemeester Coderre komt een week voordat de World Motor Sport Council van de FIA de definitieve Formule 1-kalender voor volgend jaar bekendmaakt.
