Interlagos laatste vraagteken voor kalender 2017 volgens Ecclestone

Gisteren werd bekend dat er voor de tweede keer in drie jaar geen Grand Prix van Duitsland plaats zal vinden. Vanuit Canada kwam er eerder deze wel positief nieuws, die Grand Prix staat ook volgend jaar weer op de kalender. Het enige overgebleven vraagteken voor de kalender van 2017 is de Grand Prix van Brazilië.

Met het wegvallen van de Grand Prix van Duitsland bestaat de Formule 1-kalender voor 2017 uit twintig races. Volgens Bernie Ecclestone duurt het niet lang meer voordat zeker is dat de Grand Prix van Brazilië doorgaat: "Het enige vraagteken is nu nog Brazilië. Daar werken we echter hard aan om dat op te lossen. "

Ecclestone liet verder weten dat de Grand Prix van Italië volgend jaar 'gewoon' doorgaat, ondanks dat het contract nog niet officieel is ondertekend. Ook liet de 86-jarige Brit weten er alles aan te zullen doen om de Grand Prix van Singapore na 2017 te behouden. Singapore zou niet langer bereid zijn de hoge kosten voor het organiseren van de race te willen betalen, maar volgens Ecclestone gaat daar een oplossing voor komen.

Als Zuid-Amerika verdwijnt van de kalender dan moet de formule 1 zijn status van 'wereldkampioenschap' inleveren. We moeten er alles aan doen om daar te blijven. Brazilië en F1 hebben een lange gezamenlijke traditie.
