Felipe Massa: "Kan met opgeheven hoofd afscheid nemen"

Felipe Massa heeft zijn Formule 1-carrière afgesloten met een negende plaats in de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi. De kleine Braziliaan die in 2008 net geen wereldkampioen werd, kan terugkijken op een mooie carrière, met 250 races, 11 zeges en 41 podiums, voor de teams van Sauber, Ferrari en Williams.

Massa verscheen tevreden voor de camera's van Sky: "Mijn zoon heeft onze monteurs geholpen vandaag, dus dat was wel leuk. Ik wil iedereen bedanken en ben heel erg trots op wat ik bereikt heb en op hoe ik mijn carrière af heb kunnen sluiten. Ik heb gevochten tot de laatste ronde, zoals ik dat vanaf mijn eerste ronde in de Formule 1 heb gedaan. Nu kan ik met opgeheven hoofd afscheid nemen."

"Ik geniet heel erg van dit moment, maar ik mag natuurlijk niet vergeten Nico te feliciteren. Hij verdiende dit kampioenschap echt, heeft het fantastisch gedaan en het is natuurlijk een mooi verhaal dat zijn vader ook wereldkampioen geworden is. Dit is mooi voor de sport en voor hem, dus ik wil hem graag feliciteren."

Ook wilde Massa nog wat kwijt over Jenson Button die ook afscheid nam: "Jenson is een echte gentleman, aardige vent en een goede coureur. Alles wat hij heeft bereikt, heeft hij helemaal verdiend."
