Paul Ricard draagt Franse GP op aan Jules Bianchi

De Grand Prix van Frankrijk keert in 2018 terug op de Formule 1-kalender. Er is een overeenkomst gesloten voor vijf jaar voor een race op het circuit van Paul Ricard in de buurt van Le Castellet. Dat bevestigde Christian Estrosi, president van de Conseil Régionale de Provence Côté d'Azur.

Hij draagt de hernieuwde Franse Grand Prix op aan wijlen Jules Bianchi, die vorig jaar overleed aan de gevolgen van een crash in Japan 2014. Estrosi: "Ik denk aan onze coureur uit Nice, Jules Bianchi, die ons vorig jaar verlaten heeft. Ik wil deze rentree opdragen aan hem. Mijn gedachten gaan uit naar zijn familie, zijn vader."

"De terugkeer van de Franse Grand Prix is een overwinning voor iedereen die hard gewerkt heeft voor dit succes. We weten hoe populair autosport is in ons land, en het verlies van de Grand Prix 10 jaar geleden had dan ook echt een litteken achtergelaten. Sindsdien zijn er echter meerdere pogingen gedaan om de race terug op de kalender te krijgen en ik ben er trots op dat de race na een afwezigheid van 10 jaar weer terugkeert op de Formule 1-kalender."

      Het is de eerste keer dat Frankrijk iets in de F1 kan doen voor Bianchi. Mooi gebaar dat ze dat ook aanpakken wat mij betreft.

    Het lijkt mij gepaster dat ze het circuit of in ieder geval een bocht naar hem vernoemen.

      Net zoals ze met het Circuit Ile de Notre Dame in Canada hebben gedaan.
      Maar ja, in het geval van Gilles Villeneuve heb je het (met alle respect voor Jules Bianchi) wel over een race winner en iemand die zijn stempel op de sport gedrukt heeft, Jules heeft daar spijtig genoeg nooit de kans voor gehad.
      Ik vind het op zich al een mooi eerbetoon om het evenement aan hem op te dragen

    Ik hoop wel dat ze dezelfde lay out gaan gebruiken als de races die er dit seizoen zijn verreden, anders vallen de coureurs in slaap op het rechte stuk.
