Boullier cruciaal voor terugkeer van Franse GP

De Grand Prix van Frankrijk keert in 2018 terug op de Formule 1-kalender en dat is voor een groot deel te danken aan Eric Boullier, racing director bij McLaren. De Fransman heeft zich ingespannen voor een nieuwe Grand Prix in eigen land. Boullier benutte zijn band met Bernie Ecclestone om de fundering te leggen voor een Formule 1-race op Paul Ricard vanaf 2018.

Hij legt aan Autosport uit: "Ik ben verguld door het vooruitzicht op een Franse Grand Prix in 2018. Als Fransman heb ik getracht om een bescheiden bijdrage te leveren aan het project. Christian Estrosi, president van de Conseil Régionale de Provence Côté d'Azur, is de initiatiefnemer achter deze plannen en ik heb gedaan wat ik kon om te helpen."

"Hoewel ik een Fransman ben, leef en werk ik in Engeland. In mijn functie van directeur van een van de toonaangevende Britse Formule 1-teams heb ik makkelijker toegang tot Bernie Ecclestone dan anderen. In die context heb ik een discussie op gang kunnen brengen. Een presentatie is bekeken en overwogen, een serie van de juiste boodschappen is overgebracht en begrepen."

Paul Ricard organiseerde in 1990 voor het laatste een Grand Prix. De laatste Formule 1-race in Frankrijk dateert uit 2008. De organisatie achter het evenement denkt het met een jaarlijks budget van rond de 30 miljoen euro te kunnen redden. De kaartverkoop moet 16 miljoen euro opleveren, de overige 14 miljoen euro komt uit subsidies. Paul Ricard verwacht zo'n 66.000 toeschouwers bij de race.

In welke periode vh jaar komt deze op de kalender, hopelijk in de zomer dan blijf ik daar nog wat langer :-)

  Nou, inderdaad. Ben altijd vrij helder geweest over hoe ik tegen deze Franse flierefluiter aankijk en over de man's capaciteiten denk en dit is weer een fraai staaltje van zelfoverschatting. Van de week zal er ook wel (weer) een bericht opduiken waarin ie voor de 422e keer aankondigt dat McLaren nu echt voor de overwinningen kan gaan....

66.000 toeschouwers, laten we er 80.000 van maken met de zaterdag erbij. Verdeeld over 16 miljoen, is dat gemiddeld 200 € per kaartje.

  Gaat men in Nederland de tandjes ook op stukbijten. In Europa valt geen GP te betalen zonder overheidssteun.
