Intensievere samenwerking tussen Red Bull Racing en Toro Rosso vanaf 2018 ?

Toen Red Bull Racing in 2005 debuteerde en een jaar later het opleidingsteam Toro Rosso in de sport kwam was er sprake van een intensieve samenwerking tussen beide teams. In de periode 2007 tot en met 2009 leken de auto's van beide teams sterk op elkaar, vanaf 2010 is Toro Rosso meer op eigen benen gaan staan.

Door de nieuwe reglementen kan het echter zo zijn dat beide teams weer nauwer gaan samenwerken om de regels nog beter te kunnen interpreteren. De samenwerking zal niet komend seizoen intensiveren,maar vanaf 2018 is een sterkere samenwerking mogelijk. Zowel Red Bull Racing als Toro Rosso rijden de komende jaren met Renault-motoren.

James Key, technisch directeur bij Toro Rosso, legt uit waarom een intensievere samenwerking interessant kan zijn: "Er zijn diverse onderdelen die nauwelijks verschillen per team.Omdat wij de komende jaren met dezelfde motor rijden als Red Bull Racing zullen we elkaar eerst op dat vlak proberen te versterken. Dit kan zich gaan uitbreiden met de versnellingsbak of zelfs de ophanging. Samenwerking is goed, op die manier kunnen wij onze bronnen ook beter benutten"

Key laat verder weten dat een samenwerking in 2017 nog niet mogelijk is :"Met de nieuwe regels die er aan zitten te komen is het lastig om in 2017 al iets voor elkaar te betekenen. Onze wegen liepen afgelopen jaren niet naast elkaar en onze ontwerpfilosofie is anders dan Red Bull Racing. Daarom is er voor 2017 nog niets mogelijk ,ook omdat de beide de regels nog niet goed genoeg kennen om daar samen voordeel uit te halen."

Ze rijden allebei met Renault motoren, dus als ze de auto's wat meer op dezelfde manier ontwikkelen, dan kan TR een beetje als proefkonijn van RBR gaan dienen vwb updates en afstellingen.

  Dan werkt het helemaal goed. Een team met zo'n klein budget dat vaste voet zet in de top 3! Natuurlijk zal RBR alle toegang hebben tot de wagen van STR om zo de voordelen van de samenwerking optimaal te benutten. Met het grotere budget van RBR moeten ze in staat worden geacht om STR voor te blijven al was het maar om het simpele feit dat de beste rijders door gaan naar RBR.
