Symonds spreekt geruchten over Lowe niet tegen

Technisch directeur Pat Symonds heeft in gesprek met Gazzetta dello Sport de mogelijke komst van Paddy Lowe naar Williams als zijn vervanger niet ontkend. Lowe is in het bezit van een aflopend contract bij Mercedes en volgens de verhalen staat hij op het punt om bij Williams te tekenen.

De 63-jarige Symonds: "Het is bij Williams verboden om over verbintenissen te praten. Maar het moge duidelijk zijn dat ik op een gegeven moment een stap terug zal doen. Dat betekent overigens niet dat dit na afloop van het komende seizoen zal gebeuren."

"Het is belangrijk voor mij dat ik het team in goede handen achterlaat. Het enige dat ik over Paddy Lowe kan zeggen is dat de resultaten die Mercedes onder zijn leiding behaald heeft voor zich spreken." Mercedes veroverde de afgelopen drie jaar telkens beide wereldtitels.
