Norris trekt zich terug voor Toyota Racing Series

Richard Verschoor is nog voor de start van het seizoen in de Toyota Racing Series een serieuze concurrent kwijtgeraakt. De jonge Nederlander hoeft in de raceklasse die zich afspeelt in Nieuw-Zeeland niet af te rekenen met Lando Norris.

De talentvolle Brit won in 2016 de titel in de Toyota Racing Series, om vervolgens ook de kampioenschappen in de Formule Renault 2.0 Eurocup en de Formule Renault 2.0 NEC op zijn naam te schrijven. Het leverde hem de McLaren Autosport BRDC Award op.

Norris zal zijn titel in de Toyota Racing Series echter niet verdedigen. De 17-jarige Brit heeft dit besluit genomen met het oog op de voorbereidingen op zijn debuut in het Europees kampioenschap Formule 3. "Het is teleurstellend dat ik mijn titel niet kan prolongeren. Het was een moeilijke beslissing, maar wel de juiste."

Het eerste raceweekend van de Toyota Racing Series 2017 is op 14 en 15 januari. Het veld bestaat op dit moment uit negentien deelnemers.
