Renault dicht bij een overeenkomst met BP

BP staat op het punt om terug te keren in de Formule 1. De Britse oliemaatschappij zou al in zee gaan met het team van McLaren, maar het ziet ernaar uit dat BP ook de handen ineen slaat met Renault. De deal met Renault heeft meer om het lijf dan die met McLaren, meldt Autosport.

Renault werkte de voorbije jaren samen met Total, maar was voor 2017 op zoek naar een nieuwe partner. De keuze is gevallen op BP. De Britse oliemaatschappij zal bij Renault naast technische ondersteuning ook een commerciële bijdrage leveren, terwijl de samenwerking met McLaren puur van technische aard zal zijn.

Renault-directeur Cyril Abiteboul ging niet in op de geruchten, maar hij hoopt met de nieuwe partner een hechte band naar voorbeeld van Mercedes en Petronas op te bouwen. "We hebben goed gekeken naar de sleutelfactoren die Mercedes zo succesvol maken. Een van die factoren is Petronas."

"Veel mensen realiseren zich dat niet, maar Petronas is erg toegewijd richting de Formule 1, zowel financieel als technisch. Dat is wat wij ook nodig hebben, een partner met honderd procent toewijding. Ik heb er alle vertrouwen in dat wij een relatie aan kunnen gaan met een partner met dezelfde honger en dezelfde financiële middelen als Petronas bij Mercedes."

Op zich goed bezig, alleen vraag ik me af aan wie BP het meest toegewijd zal zijn. Het Engelse McLaren of het Franse Renault..

  McLaren gaat waarschijnlijk Castrol (merk van BP) promoten samen met Honda, aangezien Castrol Honda in het verleden al succesvol was. Maar de werkelijke benzine die Honda gaat gebruiken is niet duidelijk, maar voor volgend jaar lijken ze gewoon nog Mobil1 (Exxon) te gebruiken.
  
  Renault, stapt over van Total naar BP. Renault bouwt een totaal nieuwe motor dus denk dat de samenwerking met BP al in het geheim begonnen is.
  
  Red Bull is inmiddels overgestapt van Total naar Exxon, maar daar is ook niet duidelijk of dat een technische of commerciële partner is.

  McLaren - Nu Exxon (Mobil1) in 2017 BP als commerciële partner onder het submerk Castrol hoogstwaarschijnlijk. Aangezien Renault een global partnership en technisch partner met BP gaat tekenen. Waar McLaren is 2017 mee rond rijd is niet duidelijk. Maar in ieder geval niet met BP/Castrol.

Ik neem aan dat men niet ala minute een super brandstof op de plank heeft liggen. Dit kost tijd. Ik hoop dat ik me vergis, maar ik denk dat het te kort dag is voor 2017.
