Hülkenberg: "Kaarten worden opnieuw geschud"

Nico Hülkenberg verheugt zich op zijn eerste seizoen in dienst bij Renault. De Duitser ruilde het vertrouwde nest van Force India deze winter in voor een avontuur bij het Franse fabrieksteam. Of zoals hij het in gesprek met Formula1.com met een knipoog verwoordt: "Na mijn lange huwelijk met Force India was ik toe aan een nieuwe vriendin."

Hülkenberg vervolgt: "Even serieus, ik ben Force India ontzettend dankbaar voor alles en ik heb met opgeheven hoofd afscheid genomen van dat team. 2016 was met een vierde plaats bij de constructeurs het meest succesvolle jaar in de geschiedenis van de renstal. We maakten het onmogelijke mogelijk. Echter, ik ben ervan overtuigd dat de overstap naar een fabrieksteam de juiste stap voor mij is om nieuwe successen te behalen. Renault en ikzelf zijn uitdagers met potentieel."

"De kaarten worden door de regelwijzigingen opnieuw geschud voor dit jaar, dus ik dicht ons goede kansen toe om een stap te maken. Bij Renault werken ze hard om de achterstand ongedaan te maken en ik ga ervan uit dat we een gooi kunnen doen naar punten. Er heerst veel opwinding binnen het team over mijn komst en diezelfde kriebels voel ik ook. Maar we moeten waken voor te hoge verwachtingen. Het vergt hard en veel werk om een inhaalslag te maken."

Hülkenberg beweert dat hij na het stoppen van Nico Rosberg geen seconde in de verleiding is gekomen om voor zijn kans te gaan bij Mercedes. "Gezien de situatie op dat moment is het niet eens in mijn gedachten opgekomen. Ik was al verliefd op mijn nieuwe 'vriendin' Renault."

  Maximaal, loyaliteit op zich is niet relatief of subjectief, loyaal is loyaal. Deloyaal is iets anders misschien. BeDoel je dat. Het ligt er dus aan of men werkelijk loyaal is. Maar loyaliteit is nooit relatief of subjectief dan is het geen loyaliteit ;-)
