Nieuwe banden ontworpen om meer te pushen

De nieuwe banden voor 2017 moeten de coureurs in staat stellen om komend seizoen meer de limiet op te zoeken. Dat verkondigde Pirelli-motorsportbaas Paul Hembery op de Autosport International Show. "De nieuwe banden zijn ontworpen om minder snel te slijten zodat de rijders meer kunnen pushen", aldus Hembery.

Hij denkt niet dat de teams tijdens de tests al het achterste van de tong zullen laten zien. "We zullen in Barcelona niet te weten komen wat de verhoudingen zijn, de renstallen willen zich niet in de kaarten laten kijken. Ze zullen proberen om hun ware kracht te verbergen. Het tegenovergestelde kan ook, dat teams zich verwonderd afvragen hoe ze in de buurt kunnen komen bij concurrenten die het nog rustig aan doen."

"Waarschijnlijk zien we pas in China of in Bahrein de werkelijke performance van de auto's. De Australische Grand Prix op het circuit van Albert Park in Melbourne is geen goede graadmeter, daar zien we geregeld een chaotisch wedstrijdverloop met een vreemd resultaat."

    In Melbourne zullen we denk ik wel zien wie de lakens zal uitdelen dit jaar, dat we dit pas zullen weten in China of Bahrein is lulkoek.

      Melbourne is vaak een slechte graadmeter, het is geen echt circuit waar altijd gereden wordt (dus weinig grip) en de inhaal mogelijkheden zijn ook vrij laag. Dus nee geen lulkoek.
