Pirelli: "Snelheid nieuwe bolides pas duidelijk na twee of drie races"

Volgens bandenfabrikant Pirelli zal pas na twee of drie races duidelijk worden hoeveel sneller de nieuwe generatie Formule 1-autó's is ten opzichte van de generatie auto's die de afgelopen drie jaar werden gebruikt. De testsessies zullen volgens Paul Hembery nog weinig laten zien omdat de twee testweken in Barcelona vooral gebruikt worden om de coureurs te laten wennen aan de snellere auto's. Ook zullen veel teams niet meteen voor een snelle rondetijd gaan in de voorbereiding.

Ook in Melbourne wordt het volgens Hembery nog koffiedik kijken: "De testsessies in Barcelona gaan nog niet zoveel zeggen over waar de nieuwe auto's toe in staat zijn. Pas bij de eerste race rijden de teams met het pakket waarmee ze de overzeese races zullen rijden. Ik denk dat we in Melbourne ook nog niet alles zien, pas vanaf Bahrein of China ga je echt zien wat deze bolides kunnen.

Hembery laat ook weten dat er er een kans is op minder pitstops. Pirelli testte vorig jaar de prototypes van de nieuwe banden met Ferrari, Red Bull Racing en Mercedes, maar dat was met gemodificeerde auto's van 2015. In een eerder stadium liet de Italiaanse bandenfabrikant al weten dat de hoeveelheid neerwaartse druk met de aangepaste auto's niet gelijk is aan wat de nieuwe bolides daadwerkelijk genereren: "We hebben de tests afgewikkeld met auto's die vijf seconden langzamer zijn dan de wagens die in Barcelona voor het eerst op de baan verschijnen. Het kan dus zijn dat we iets te conservatief zijn geweest in de ontwikkeling van de compounds, maar dat weten we pas wanneer we voor het eerst de baan opgaan met de nieuwe auto's."

Pirelli laat ook weten dat er mogelijk nog een test komt met regenbanden. Hier zullen ook weer de gemodificeerde auto's gebruikt worden van Red Bull, Ferrari en Mercedes. Pirelli kreeg vorig seizoen veel kritiek op de regenbanden, met name vanwege het feit dat er niet genoeg water afgevoerd kon worden.

  Ik ben het met je eens. Maar ik dacht dat juist iedereen zo liep te mauwen dat de banden te snel slijten en dat de coureurs niet meer voluit kunnen trappen... Ik ben erg benieuwd naar volgend jaar.

En sorry dat ik het zeg maar er waren toch een aantal coureurs, die er wel mee overweg konden ( 1 in het bijzonder, maar zal zijn naam niet noemen ) .

  Het gaat er niet om om er mee overweg te kunnen, maar het feit dat in het Michelin/Bridgestone tijdperk de regenbanden veel meer konden dan in het huidige Pirelli tijdperk.

  Als ze bij de FIA even alle 'sissi' - boys bijles geven dat je niet bij iedere regendruppel de race stil moet leggen kunnen teams ook veel meer data verzamelen. Maar nee, standaard bij regen rollende start, eerst even droge lijn rijden. De F1 is eigenlijk een 'mooi-weer-klasse' , als je het zo bekijkt.
  
  En de huidige banden hebben de teams ook leren begrijpen, dus waarom niet de huidige regenbanden?

Ik hoop dat er voldoende verschil is tussen de beschikbare compounds, zodat de teams ook andere strategién kunnen gebruiken tijdens de races.

Het liefste banden die de hele race meegaan. En dan geen rubber sparen maar gewoon gassen. Geen bandenfluisteraars in de auto's maar coureur die het volle vermogen van de bolide aanspreken.

  Er geld een minimum van 305 km per gp. Dus het aantal rondes dat als eerste de 305 km overschrijdt wordt als aantal gebruikt. Uitzondering hierop is Monaco.
