George Russell opgenomen in opleiding Mercedes

Mercedes heeft een plekje in het opleidingsprogramma gereserveerd voor Georg Russell. De 18-jarige Brit is na Pascal Wehrlein en Esteban Ocon het derde lid uit de opleiding van de Duitse autofabrikant. Russell eindigde vorig jaar als derde in het Europees kampioenschap Formule 3. In 2017 zal hij namens ART Grand Prix in de GP3 racen.

Russell: "Het is geweldig nieuws dat Mercedes me op heeft genomen in het opleidingsprogramma. Het is een ongelooflijke mogelijkheid om de steun te ontvangen van de regerend kampioen bij de constructeurs. Ik ben trots voor deze erkenning voor het harde werk dat ik tot dusver al in mijn carrière heb gestoken."

Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff: "George heeft een indrukwekkende vorm tentoon gespreid in de Formule 3 en we hielden hem al langer nauwlettend in de gaten. Zijn loopbaan als coureur is nog erg pril, maar we zien enorm veel potentieel in hem."

      ? die snap ik niet? Ze (Mercedes) heeft blijkbaar niet zo'n neus voor talent, of de pech dat de talenten de laatste stap die nodig is niet (snel genoeg) kunnen zetten.......
      Ligt het aan Mercedes dat Wehrlein niet doorgroeit?

      Alleen Red Bull haalt echte talenten en heeft de juiste intentie met haar talentenprogramma. Het lijkt er op dat MB het meer als een leuk marketingtool ziet.

      Wat een kul. Iedereen heeft de juiste intentie met het opleidingsprogramma maar niet iedereen heeft stoeltjes voor opleidingsdoeleinden in de aanbieding.

      Pietje2013 Met het niet aanstellen van Pascal als hun coureur geven ze het juiste signaal af. En red Bull heeft weer twee toppers kunnen toevoegen aan hun programma.

      RB heeft zoveel talenten dat zij nu ook al stoeltjes tekort kunnen. Wehrlein zit tenminste nog in de F1. Iedereen schreeuwde moord en brand dat Stoffel een jaartje Japan moest doen maar bij RB hoor je daar niemand over.
